Another reviewer suggested getting an LL Bean or Schott. Schott Bros produces an excellent product. No doubt about it. Their pea coats & Perfecto motorcycle jackets are some of the best on the market. But as for LL Bean, this jacket is an LL Bean. It's the same jacket. I've been to the Golden ... Read More

I am 5'5'', 170 and the medium fits perfectly. Usually I have issues with sleeves being too long for my frame, but this jacket really fits well. I am very pleased with this purchase.

2 grommetted ventilation holes under each arm.
    Hidden snaps under pocket flaps.

My other leather jackets are winter weight & insulated with Thinsulate & wool shearling. I can wear it, and it's too hot. Or not wear it, and feel a chill.

This is an uninsulated jacket. It allows you the freedom of adding and removing layers, and to simply use the jacket as a lightweight windbreaker. In San Francisco, this is the perfect "just in case" jacket that you keep in the back of your car. I've actually rolled it up & placed it in my panniers, saddle bags, and back packs for hikes & day trips.

I've been wearing Golden Bear leather bombers just like this since I was a kid. If you don't outgrow them, a cared for jacket could last a lifetime. This same jacket is made for LL Bean and sold as a "Flying Tiger".

This is a reproduction of the popular World War II era A-2 jacket. Authentic? What's authentic? Government contract jackets of the era all varied slightly, depending on the manufacturer, subcontractor, and production lot.

About Golden Bear

Golden Bear Sportswear has stepped it up a notch since 1922, when their signature leather jackets were only worn by hard-working longshoremen on the waterfront of San Francisco. That same durability and quality stayed with the Golden Bear name as they designed their famed series of leather bomber jackets for WWII pilots taking to the skies in Flying Fortresses. Golden Bear's popularity then soared into the '50s, when varsity jackets became all the rage among high school and college students. And the momentum continued when Golden Bear's proximity to San Francisco put them at the center of the '60s counter-culture movement, and the revival of the original leather dockworker jacket became a fashion trend embraced by famous beat poets and rock stars. Today, Golden Bear is still a prestigious jacket brand known for its exceptional tailoring and luxurious leathers, suedes and wools.
