Jacket is too dark & not soft enough.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The catalogue states that the jacket is brown. The jacket is actually a very dark brown (almost black). Also, for the price, I expected the leather to be much softer than it turned out to be, so I returned the jacket for full credit.
