I have over the years found merino wool socks to be the best overall choice for wearability and comfort. I've had cheap ones. I've had expensive ones. This particular sock surpasses them all. I use them 10 months of the year (in high summer, I switch to a cotton sock). While somewhat more expen...

Very comfortable socks, had bought 6 pair for when I go for daily walks, but now I like them so much, I wear them all day, they fit perfect, and even after several washings I haven't noticed any shrinkage, they still fit perfect.

These are the best socks I have ever worn, and not just for hiking.
12 or 13 years ago, on the way to Knoxville, I discovered Men's Merino Wool Hiker Socks at an Eddie Bauer outlet store near Lebanon, TN, and bought two 3-packs of these khaki socks for $16 per 3-pack. These became my every day socks and I wore these as casual socks with various khaki trousers most of the time for many years. They wear like iron and are very comfortable.
When I tried to buy some more several years ago, because I was down to 2 pair, they had been discontinued by Eddie Bauer. I contacted Eddie Bauer Corporate to find out the manufacturer, but was told that information was not available. I have searched many stores and websites since for these socks, with no luck.
Quite by accident, I discovered these Goodhew Hiking Socks on the Sierra website, and they appeared to be the same as those I bought at Eddie Bauer. I purchased 2 pair and found them to be identical. I have since purchased 7 pair more so I will have spares in the future.
I don't understand why Sierra shows these as Closeouts. These are great socks for every day use. Why close them out?
