It is a floppy bucket hat, but with a firm not hard brim, so it will stand up well in a shower, not a downpour. There are no air vents, but it is mesh lined, which makes it an all seasons hat: breathes but adds warmth on a cool day. Excellent colour (khaki)

This hat held up nicely for me in a light rain, but it doesn't breath well. I was hoping to use it to block the sun while hiking, but I overheat while wearing this. I'll still use it for rain, but I need to look elsewhere for something to use when its sunny out.

This hat is very light weight and comfortable. I can't speak of it's waterproof quality but it is Gortex and I am trusting it will perform. The hat also is perfect for traveling as it folds flat and takes up no room at all. I have a hard to fit small head and the size small fits nicely. I also really like the way it looks on. I highly recommend this hat.
The easiest way is to use a piece of string and another hat with a known size in it. Measure your head with the string, then compare it to the known size hat. There is always a size chart with sizes and equivalents listed. If you don't own a hat with a size tag still in it, poll your friends. Someone will have one you can use. You might need to borrow the string also!!
