For shorter outings, put the bags in a plastic(or other airtight container) and you can revitalize for later use! they are activated by air, so remove the air and they go dormant. Happy warm hands !!

great product for when the weather is really cold

We use these at our outdoor mobile food distribution pantry. We have to stand outside in the snow and sleep and pass out fresh food to the poor in our area and it gets pretty darn cold. When I got these handwarmers for the team, it changed everything. We slip them in our pockets and our gloves and they help keep us functioning outdoors for the few hours we help the public. They take a little bit of time to warm up but once they are on, they are good for several hours. Well worth the purchase. I put some in my car in case of emergency as well. Good for hunters, for shoveling snow, anytime you are at risk of having cold hands.

I have used these for years! They last for hours and can be used in gloves, hats, pockets- anywhere. I have used them ice fishing in a small cooler to keep bait from freezing.

These hand warmers that I ordered recently from Sierra Trading do not get as hot as others (of the same brand) that I've purchased elsewhere. I thought perhaps they were expired but the date goes to 2017. I don't know why they are not as warm, and they don't last as long either. Disappointed.

I keep these on hand (no pun intended) for my family and the runners/cyclists that I coach for Team In Training. Just the thing to keep us out training on the cold Midwestern mornings in February. We even offered these for donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the recent Mardi Gras parade in St. Louis - a COLD and WINDY day. Got them at an outstanding coupon price so I'm ready for anything.

  • Question “Are these reusable?”
Asked on 5/16/2014 9:11:46 PM by Vicki from MA
    • Answer Not reusable. Package states:
"this product is designed for one time use"
I love these, though. They are essential for me,
in cold weather because I have "Raynaud's" syndrome,
meaning my fingers and toes can go numb and lose all
These really are wonderful in your gloves or in your pocket:)

    • Answer No, they only work once, but once hot they last for several hours.

    • Answer No. They usually last up to 8 hours, one time use only. If they aren't producing heat in that time frame I take them out and shake em a little bit, mostly get some air to them, then they are warm again.
Answered on 5/16/2014 11:03:50 PM by Dora the Explorer from Tahoe
    • Answer No, these cannot be reused. Once you open the package the grabbers heat up in like a minute or so, getting warmer until they reach max heat. The heat lasts for maybe 8 hours--it's a long time, because I'll just use one packet for a day of outside activity. The packets gradually lose heat and you cannot regenerate it. They're disposable. Once you take the grabber out of the packaging, the clock starts ticking. You can't stop it from heating up and you can't regenerate the heat once it starts to die. Hope this helps.

      you are wearing.

    • Answer No......once you activate the packet by rubbing it, it will stay real warm for a few hours ....I don't think I ever needed it more than 4 hours and it did stay warm for that length of time. My Grandchildren love these packets.......I give them as "a stocking stuffer" for Xmas. I also use them when I go for long walks in the winter and hockey games. I keep a set in my car in case I need them.
      Hope this helps.

    • Answer Sadly, they are not reusable. However, the good news is: I have reusable one's but they are to big to fit inside my gloves and they don't give-off enough heat to warm my hands from the outside in! These warmers are flexible enough to put inside gloves and they kept my hands and fingers warm.. Sierra's price makes them cost effective !

    • Answer Once opened, the heat lasts for at least 7 hours, maybe more. So, you could use them in the morning & then again in the afternoon. But after about 7 hours, they no longer work & you cannot use them later.
Answered on 5/18/2014 9:27:50 PM by Lela from Michigan
    • Answer No, the Grabber heat backs (whether hand warmer, toe warmer or foot warmer) are not reusable. They create heat through a chemical reaction in the product, and once that reaction is completed, the chemicals are consumed. However, for the price of the product, the fact that they are disposed off after use is not a major concern for at least most of us. I have been VERY happy to have had them on several occasions when I my hands (or feet, as the case may be) otherwise would have been very uncomfortably cold, such a skiing or fly fishing in temperatures in the teens or 20's. In such situations they are definitely worth the price. I would suggest that you add a half dozen of these to you next order (I don't know that I would suggest ordering just these) from STP and try them out - I will be surprised if you do not find they are well worth the price and find yourself order more (though I know STP does not have them available all of the time, they certainly do seem to have them on a regular basis).

    • Answer Yes, if you seal them in a Ziploc bag. They are air-activated so after you open them they will continue to work (approx. 8-10hrs) unless you cut off the oxygen. By doing this, I've been able to get 2 or 3 days of use out of them. I googled this question and found a video on you-tube.

    • Answer Grabber actually sells a new version with a little ziploc bag for this purpose. Works only so-so.||The heat is produced through oxidation of the contents so when you seal them up and exclude oxygen you can slow down and stop the process. When you reopen the bag, the process continues. Unfortunately ziploc bags are not necessarily air tight so sometimes a second use will not work well, especially if they have been sitting for a while because oxygen slowly leaked in.

  • Question “What is being oxidized to create the heat? Does the oxidation product have any secondary use?”
Asked on 10/29/2010 12:00:00 AM by Steve from Saegertown, PA 16433
    • Answer The warmers operate on a chemical reaction with air similar to rusting. The warmer ingredients are iron, water, cellulose, vermiculite, activated carbon and salt. The heating process takes place in this fashion:|The iron in the pouch, when exposed to oxygen, oxidizes and therefore produces heat (aka, "Air Activated"). When iron oxidizes it produces iron oxide, more commonly referred to as rust.|The salt acts as a catalyst. The carbon helps disperse the heat. The vermiculite is used as an insulator for the purpose of retaining the heat and the cellulose is added as a filler. All of these ingredients are surrounded by a polypropylene bag. Polypropylene allows air to permeate the ingredients while holding in moisture.|The item is a one time use product.
