They are very thin and you can't expect the same warmth you find in the hand warmers but when others complain of their toes getting cold mine didn't.

Answer I've been ordering these for the last five years and there are always carryovers from one year into the next. I've never opened a pack that did not warm up, but I do notice that they may not last the 6 to 8 hours. Warmers that I've carried around in my bag become useless and I put that off to possible punctures and whatever happens in our bags on a daily basis.
