2.0 out of 5 stars. What you need to knowReviewed by Zoltar from California on Saturday, June 6, 2015For your reference:
This pack came with a medium men's hip belt. This pack came with medium trim-style shoulder straps.
What I liked about this pack...
The vented back panel is nice. Like all GG packs, it can be customized. The Cordura is pretty durable and the quality of the hip belt and back padding are great.
What I didn't like...
Trim shoulder straps
Compression straps are over the exterior pockets
Quite a few straps (interior load straps and exterior compression straps) which complicates the design.
No true bottom ...the bottom is created from the fold up exterior flap
No hydration sleeve
Kind of heavy for a bag with no true compartment.
Will carry a bear canister but there isn't room for much else in the main area.
Rant:
I owned a Granite Gear Nimbus Ozone and loved that pack. This is not it. At some point in the last 5 years, GG decided it would be smart to make all their should straps thinner by about a 1/2 inch. The "trim" shoulder straps drive me crazy. It is narrow enough that the weight does not distribute well and I find it really cuts into my shoulders. The worst part is, they no longer offer the regular width straps. My Nimbus Ozone had nice wide straps, and upon warranty replacement, they couldn't match that pack (discontinued) and I got the Leopard AC 58. This had the trim style straps that cut into my traps' with the skill of a butcher. I consigned it in under a year. Why they would stop making the Nimbus Ozone is beyond me? That pack won many many awards and giving up on a proven design seems foolish to me. To make "trim" straps and not offer a non-trim model also seems asinine, especially since at one time you manufactured a regular width strap on all your packs. Get it together Granite Gear!
