I did a lot of research before buying a pack and this was the winner. I don't need a pack this light but it doesn't give the impression of lacking durability even with the reduced weight. I use this mainly for climbing and I can fit my rope with rope bag, a full rack, draws, shoes, tarp, harness, webbing, chalk bag, jacket, water bottles on the side and while I have to pack a little smart (spend 5 minutes getting it all to fit properly) once loaded it feels great. Without that much gear there is plenty of room to spare. I can't speak highly enough about this pack, I'm a huge supporter of Granite Gear!

I bought this pack because I am trying to go lighter when backpacking. I have used and liked my Gregory pack for years, but it is too heavy now that I have found this pack. The stretch fabric used for the back padding and pockets looked somewhat vulnerable to abrasions. I noticed a small snag in the backrest fabric after the first use. I realize that lightweight gear can be less durable, so my plan to be more careful setting this pack down on rough surfaces, and going cross country through brush. I think they need to change the black stretch fabric to a more durable fabric. I liked how the pack felt while hiking with a 40 lbs load. It also compressed very well for small loads. The back, shoulder and hip pads were generously padded. The multitude of adjustments are a big selling point- a good fit is very important in pack comfort! I have a short torso- 16" and find it hard to get a nice pack that fits my short waist. I am 5'4". This pack has options to adjust the fit by purchasing other sizes of hip, shoulder pads, and waist belts. I am unsure how much that would cost to switch out with the original ones that came with the pack- so I suggest that you check it out before you buy. It fit me fine the way it came, so I was lucky.

Just took this for a 4-day backpack in Yosemite. All the good things people say about the pack are true, but the size (3800 on the Regular Torso) is not enough for 4-day trek where you're carrying a tent and sleeping bag plus bear cannister etc. I managed, but I didn't really carry my share of the group equipment. I think this pack would be great for winter sports like skiing in to a hut. If you don't have to carry a tent, maybe for multinight backpacking, but you have to pack ultralean. The lid makes into a fanny pack that's only so-so. Not really comfortable with a large water bottle and snacks.

This is a very nice pack. Light, with heavier material applied to stress/wear points. I returned this because I thought the front zipper opened in a flap manner, completely exposing the main compartment. The zipper affords access to the main compartment, but only on one side. I was tempted to keep the pack anyway.
