I bought this for my son who plans to start backpacking (relief from college). The pack fits as described. He is a size small (approx. 5' 10" 170 lbs.) My husband has another Gregory pack that is for heavier loads (such as packing meat out on hunts) and is extremely pleased as well. Thank you STP for offering great products at a great price.

This is my 3rd gregory pack, Downsizing from a 95 liter, to save my knees, Good and bad is that Nothing takes a heavy load like a gregory does. My only complaint is that I would like more external pockets- for my water purifyer/ flashlight etc, just enough so that I do not need to get into the pack to get at immediate need items. Other than that I can highly reccomend this pack.

The issue with the squeaky frame appears related to two snap-heads contacting the back of the hipbelt. Unsnap the snaps and flip them up out of the way (they don't appear to be structural), to get rid of the noise.

You may get the impression that the Gannett 80 is almost the same as Gregory's Palisade 80, but there are some huge quality differences that account for the price difference. It is not the same suspension, the zippers on the Gannett are not the same quality, Unlike the Palisade, the material on the back of the pack is the heavy material used on the pack bottom, access to the pack interior isn't as nice, tie-offs on the Gannett are not as useful, don't underestimate what it is going to cost you to add on hip belt pockets if that is something you are used to. However, I love Gregory suspension and the Gannett suspension works well. It sure holds a lot. For the price, I am satisfied, I'm just not impressed.

This pack will be used for extended overnight hiking adventures. It was bought for a 14 year old scout who is going on a 12 day backpack trip in the mountains of New Mexico. The thoughtful placement of compartments will help him pack smart. The pack is constructed so that varying size loads can be snugly carried. This allows for flexible use.

Looking over this pack, trying it on, etc... I have found there to be a few things that are unnecessary.....like the little metal pieces on the side straps and the extra long webbing on the hip belt. The packhood does come off and hass long webbing but does not have any buckels. It is replacing my 10 year old Lowe Alpine so I believe I have tradded up.

Very comfortable, compresses well, huge pack, very sturdy. I just got it and loaded it up with around 50 lbs of bulky clothes, towels, books, etc and hiked with the pack and it handled really well. I did not hear the squeak I read on other comments. Pack is very very comfortable, seams seem to hold well, and no zipper problems or snags. Base of the pack is very durable and very waterproof. I also didn't see it in the description, but the top is removable and has internal straps to turn into a fanny pack for day hikes. This does not come with a rain cover, but you can purchase one from gregory for a reasonable price. I am 5'9'' 155lbs, and the medium pack fits me perfectly. Pack is 81L in a medium, and weighs 6 pounds on the dot. Not the lightest pack, but for the money, you can't beat this product. Plus, Gregory Packs, come with a manufacterer's lifetime warranty.

Definitely not large enough to hold a summer's worth of gear for an extended holiday. This would be best for a week or so. Great pack, though. Extremely durable!

I am 6'1" and weigh 250lbs. This is a great bag for a big guy looking for a comfortable bag. Carrying 50 - 65lbs is no problem. I do a couple of trips a year to the Appalachians and just did 8 - 10 miles per day for 4 days in North GA/TN without any discomfort. The bag adjusts very easily. I have used other bags with the same weight and this one feels lighter due to the comfort in the suspension and padding. I did not find the bag noisy at all like others suggest. Great product.
