Fly fishing? Yeah, not so much. Good thing the Grey's Strata is versatile enough to be useful outside of that niche. Impeccably constructed, it's lighter and more comfortable than a softshell and more substantial than a fleece; hitting a good balance point between both. It's warm and windproof as de... Read More

5' 10" 190 lbs, Large fit perfect. Awesome jacket! Windproof, warm, breathable. Who cares if the zipper is on the wrong side?

Very happy with jacket. Is true to size. I returned the L initially ordered for an XL in order to comfortably wear a sweater or something else underneath. Jacket is warm, lightweight, and provides good wind protection, plus I feel it is decently stylish.

I'm extremely happy with my purchase of the Greys Strata Jacket. I was wanting a new fleece jacket to replace some older ones. The Strata hits all of my targets for a new fleece. It is windproof, plenty warm on its own, correct sizing (others I've tried are either too tight or too loose fitting), very handsome (you can tell by both the look of the fleece and other materials, the smooth zippers and the feel that this is a very high quality made garment), functional (plenty of pockets), and yet very affordable through STP. Prior to purchasing I thought I'd give a Mammut fleece a try from another retailer, having heard so many good things about Mammut products. But the Mammut fleece was surprisingly flimsy, almost sheer. The Mammut was like a thin fleece tshirt lacking any warmth or wind protection. It was also much more expensive than the Strata jacket. I returned the Mammut The impression I got from the Mammut was that they were trying to give their customers as little jacket as they could get away with for the price. I get the exact opposite impression from the Greys Strata jacket. Greys has spared no expense to create a quality product that should last a lifetime. Now that I'm aware of the quality of Greys, I'm keeping my eyes open for other Grey's products!

As an added thought, the only gripe I may have, and it's minor in my estimation, is that the zipper pull is on the left side of the jacket in the European tradition, instead of on the right side like most Americans are accustomed. No big deal but it doesn't fall to hand as habitually.

Very nice, heavy, warm fleece jacket. My only real complaint so far is the zipper pull is on the left side of the jacket and I am used to them being on the right. Other than that, great deal on a well built jacket

Awesome windproof fleece at an amazing price...accurate sizing (no need to go up a size if you want to layer or wear a hoodie underneath). Have to let it air out for a day or two..has a slight chemical smell at first...

    • Answer I've had the jacket for a few months now--haven't worn it outdoors for an extended period of time, just walking to the mailbox and between the car and my office. But it has an inner lining that provides the windproofing front and back, and it definitely does a good job as an outer layer in all but subzero temps.

    • Answer I think the entire jacket is windproof. I think one of the reviewers wrote that the windproof material is only on the front and shoulders but after looing at the jacket closely I don't think that is the case. As you can see from the picture there is a chest panel of material that is not fleece and that same material is carried over and across the shoulders. but if you look at the inside of the jacket it appears to be uniform which leads me to the conclusion that the entire jacket is windproof.
and when you think about why just windproof a portion of the chest and shoulders?
It is cut a bit long to cover below the waist and the sleeves are a bit long to cover the back of the hands. there is no storm cuff which is a drawback. but this is a nice fleece jacket for the money.

    • Answer The entire coat is wind-resistent, but the true windproofing is most evident in the front panels and shoulders. For my purposes, this provided the proper balance since it permitted sweat to more easily be wicked away from my skin.
