This is a great jacket overall, with a few small issues. This jacket is very effective at windstopping, is fairly warm, and is very stylish. However, the large front pockets start up at nipple level, and extend way down, as you can see in the product pictures. What this means is that you can't really tuck your hands into them without having them be all the way open, letting in cold air. Also, when the zippers are closed, they can act a little... pasty-like, to be blunt.

The cut is also a *little* small for a softshell jacket. For example, Columbia's sizing is generous, while this jacket is a little smaller than average in the belly area -- chest and arms were sized without issue (guess I should work out more). The downside to this is that it can be tough to layer appropriately for colder days without feeling a little sausage-like. As such, on ski days where I anticipate base temperatures of 15 degrees or less, I will opt for a thicker jacket (like my two-layer Spyder) and leave this one at home. The jacket is extremely light though physically, which makes you feel much less bound up or confined than my two-layer ski jacket. This feeling is also a pleasant by-product of the athletic-type cut of the jacket as there isn't any excess cloth bunching up.

While on my first ski outting with this jacket, I was plenty warm while moving on the slopes, however the lift rides could be a little chilly. My layers were an Icebreaker long sleeve underlayer and a light fleece sweatshirt. The base temperature was roughly 20 degrees, so these should have been adequate. They were fine while on the slopes, but I definitely cooled down on the lifts.

The interior electronics pocket is as near perfect execution as I've seen. It is sized for your smartphone/mp3 player (enough space, but not enough the phone can move around/rotate), and the pocket is located near the top of the jacket so you don't have to unzip far to access it.

Overall, I'm very happy with this jacket; it is very effective at blocking wind, and is warm enough for anything but the coldest days here in the Northeast.

I don't know from other soft shells, but this coat is my favorite over 30 years of skiing. I can open it huge and get my body cooled down. Blistering cold days (5 and below) I'll take my hard shell, but everything else (except rain when I watch football), I'll use this. Skied today with two midweights underneath in 10 degrees, wind on the lift, sunshine and was wonderfully comfortable; but I'd rather be a bit chilly than soaking my clothes.

You only have to put it on to appreciate it. Only oddity is appearance of narrow shoulders. I haven't decided if they are actually narrow, or just appear that way due to raglan sleeve construction, but it is still comfortable. Otherwise it's a total winner.

I really liked this jacket and wanted to keep it but the fact that it had no powder skirt, no removable hood and that it is not seem sealed, and therefore, not waterproof were a turn off. The waterproof zippers and pit zips were a nice touch, but why have waterproof zippers on a jacket that is not waterproof is beyond me. Gore windstopper can not be seam sealed and that was this jackets downfall.
