I have a narrow foot so I was hopeful for a good fit after reading other reviews about this shoe being on the narrow side. Unfortunately, they were too narrow, especially in the toe box (NO wiggle room) so returned them. The ordering and return process was a snap so no issues there.

I bought the Hanwag Pradera model in late 2013. Absolutely the best shoe I have owned of this type. Expected similar results with the Badile but the toe box and overall sizing was not as expected. Maybe a half size or full size larger would have made a difference. The quality of construction and materials is great. Had to return these with hope of future availability in a low cut Hanwag in my size.

Chosen originally because I wanted a shoe made in a good factory by well-paid people who just might actually hike. I needed a full size up from my usual, partly due to the narrow shape and stiff rand that will prevent the shoe from stretching out (at all!). The shoes have a unique "feel"; an all-of-a-piece solidity that should translate into reliable protection on the trail. Stiff and hard-feeling at first, these are definitely not any kind of gussied-up running shoe (they are about as suited to running as Telemark boots). They are built to a purpose, and have so far performed very well. They should also last a lot longer than the usual "light hikers" , by being better made, and because they just don't lend themselves to being used as all-day/every day dork-around shoes. You'll save them for the real deal, and rely on them for years.

The shoes are well made (mine said 'Made in Europe', not Germany, which typically means an Eastern European country). I normally wear 10D, and size 9 was a little too snug (my foot is relatively narrow with a high arch), so I sized up to 9.5. I would say unless you have a very very narrow foot with a smallish big toe, go down only 1/2 size in the conversion. Otherwise, the shoes are great, though the gore-tex membrane will make your feet sweat in hot weather.

This is one of the most finely made approach shoes available. It has a protective rand around the lower at the welt. It offers tremendous arch support and weighs about nothing. Sole is the finest Vibram and the construction is bombproof. Hanwag is a cut above. Remember, though, when you get them, that the rand keeps the lower from being very forgiving IF your foot is a little wider than the shoe's last. Otherwise, they are really , really nice.

I went for these shoes after some other approach shoes quickly had issues with seems and quality. The shoes out of the box appeared to have been made extremely well. They were tight at first, I am 9.5US and went with the 8.5 UK. My foot is slightly on the narrow side. After wearing them over the weekend they broke in and the fit ended up being spot on. Shoes appear to be extremely sturdy and handled some rocky terrain well, but not wet grass...the sole is pretty hard and was slipping. For now I give them 4 stars...after one week.

Good looking shoes but they run small. I'm usually a US12 in most shoes and the UK11.5's I ordered need at least a half size up to fit. These have a narrow profile as well...Like the Gore-Tex and Vibram sole.

Think a full size up depending on the width of your feet.

Quality of the shoe is amazing. The fit was too tight for my toes (I'm a D width). And the overall stiffness of the shoe would not be comfortable on long hikes.
