I purchased the Foxhound 50 for my son who is learning to backpack with the Boy Scouts. The pack is a good choice for those wanting a traditional, old-school external frame pack. It's smart-looking, and as a plus includes ports to accommodate a hydration system. The capacity is adequate for overnighters and short excursions and should suit the beginner well. Beyond that, I'd only rate it a bit above average- a step up from discount store brands, but not particularly exceptional. The suspension system, for example, is mediocre at best; the back mesh in particular is downright flimsy, offering very little support or cushion. The buyer would be advised to ignore the MSRP, which in my view has been ridiculously overinflated. Buy the pack with a coupon and you'll have a serviceable pack at a decent price. I'd rate it a qualified "buy" for overall value.

Highly recommended. This is a classic external frame backpack that is necessary for many Boy Scouts (easily adjustible as they grow and easy to add gear to the frame). It is lightweight and well designed with strong fabric. I may add a hydration pack for my son (there is a slit for the tube). I intend to occasionally use it, too, since it is so light.
I gave it 5 stars for being a high quality external frame backpack. It obviously cannot not compare to some more expensive "modern" designs.
The sale price makes this a bargain when compared to the other competitive packs.
Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Great Features, Lightweight, Roomy
