I really wanted to like this bag and the image, description and reviews look quite promising. I've used a similar bag, Protocol by JC Penney, since 1995 or so. That one's been all over the country along with two European trips, so I've dragged it between cars, planes, buses and over long distances of terrain. It's an amazing bag; it's soft sided, with an interior lid pocket, an open rear exterior pocket (great for newspapers/magazines) and a small but thoughtfully designed detachable daypack. I've carried both on my back and know the straps work well enough (but I prefer wheeling the bag). I think I paid $60 for it back in '95.So, I guess I expected too much from this High Sierra wheeled bag, which I got on sale last April for about [$]. Upon arrival I was a bit disappointed with the construction; it just seemed on the cheap side. The bag didn't have pockets (unless you count the interior zipped up access to the wheel mechanism; I guess those could be kind of secret stash areas, but I didn't use them for such). The zip off daypack was okay but I found the interior space too tight (too much padding and not enough openings for easy access), so it was not quite as flexible a bag as I'd anticipated.Upon examining the bag at home on its arrival, I recall worrying that the zipper, attaching the daypack to the main bag, seemed vulnerable to breakage but hoped for the best. However, upon arriving at our European destination and zipping off the daypack, the bag tipped over onto the floor (from the floor, not falling off a bed or other place of some height) and the zipper broke off rendering the attachable aspect of the two bags useless. The zippers overall seems likely to easily snap and must be treated gently. I've returned this bag and purchased the twice as expensive Eagle Creek Tarmac Plus One. I hope Eagle Creek's Vietnamese-made bag holds up better than the Chinese-made High Sierra one. If not, I guess I'll take my old Protocol bag out of retirement.
