I've run in other hoka shoes and, while they do not make this clear on their website or literature, they clearly use two different types of foam in the midsole: soft and stiff. These shoes use the stiffer foam in the midsole which I find far less preferable than the softer foam. To me, these ride similar to other less padded running shoes but ride much higher off the ground. This leads to a higher risk of turning an ankle--particularly while on the trail, which is the stated purpose of the ATR designation. To me, this is counterproductive and I don't see much use for this shoe in my running future.
