I wear my shorts loose so the fact that the waist was a little big was no problem. Someone who likes to wear things snug might wan to order down a size. I am a 36. Great shorts and great quality.

I am 6'4" with a 35" waist. I got size 36 and they are true to size on me, i.e., a little loose, but nothing a belt can't solve. They come down to mid-kneecap, so would definitely go lower on those of average height. I normally like shorts a couple inches longer for casual wear or shorter for hiking to avoid that feeling of the hem rubbing on my knee. Not a problem with these; the fabric has a smooth inner surface that slides against the skin like silk boxers. The brushed cotton on the outside gives these a high quality look and feel. Love the light weight, too!
