Ibex Alyx Jacket - Soft Shell (For Women)

Ibex makes a great product. I read the reviews of this jacket & ordered it based on the sleeve length issue. The biggest complaint I have about women's wear is the arms are too short & my wrists get cold. With this jacket I can extend my arms in any direction & wrists stay covered! Yay. (BTW- my "ape" index is a +1) I am only 5'4" so I wouldn't say my arms are unusually long either. It is a stylish jacket with a good cut for short- waisted people. I wonder how the fit would be for a taller person. (The jacket isn't very long from shoulder to hip.)

Great jacket, warm, lightweight, looks great. It is a bit more stiff than supple and that might bother some, not me.

I bought a version of this jacket as a sample of number of years ago (from the maker's tent sale) and regrettably consigned it. After searching for another like product, i decided that if it's not broke don't fix it and hurriedly purchased it here. I did say the sleeve length is long, but that's not necessarily a bad thing- when you move it still covers- other just might be shorter that I (5'6"). I love all of Ibex's products- you get what you pay for. I won't make the mistake of consigning this one.

I was planning on this jacket being my mulitpurpose jacket - my fault i didn't read more carefully to notice that there is no lining in the jacket and i do not need another gortex shell. I returned the jacket because the body is very bulky, almost no tapering so it looks very very boxy on as well as the need for layers underneath since there is no lining as mentioned above. I am 5'8'' and have longer arms and a shorter torso. the arms fit wonderfully which I was thrilled about but could not overlook the body fit.

I was delighted to find this jacket to be much nicer looking than it appears in the photo on the website. I love the quality of Ibex clothing. This blended material is rather stiff, but I am sure it softens as other reviewers have said it does. I was sad to do it, but I sent the jacket back because the torso was not form fitting. It felt like I had a lot of excess fabric around my chest and stomach, which is unflattering and inefficient for warmth. The arm length and shoulder width however felt just right. I am 5'3" and weigh 107.

I have short arms, and the sleeves were long on me, but useful when cold out and pockets are zipped. I'm getting all kinds of compliments on it - it looks great! Good deal, too.

I generally wear a size 6 but I have a 34 D bust and I found the darts (the jagged edge w/ contrasting color that comes out of armpit area toward midline) to be very unflattering. For me, because I have a large bust the point at which the 2 lines came together made almost like an arrow. Very unflattering. This jacket will not look good on any body with a large chest.

I really wanted a jacket that could do just about everything. This seems like the coat that can keep me warm on hikes and skiing. It also looks good!

this is nicely made, but has no insulation and is very lightweight, so if you want to layer it it's best to size up. I'm 5'4", and small, and the xsmall would have fit great with no layers. But it's beautiful, and I think I'll get lots of use out of it this winter.

I do like this soft shell, although I was skeptical at first due to the light weight. I have worn it riding horse in 40 degree weather with a light layer underneath and kept warm and comfortable. The sleeve length suits me and the length in back keeps me warm while in the saddle. I am 5'7" and 120 lbs and bought the medium so I could put lots of warmth underneath if I needed to. This is a nice jacket for the way I'll use it.
