    No, I would not recommend this to a friend
    I wanted so badly to like these - they are a fun color, and I want some shorts that can handle being abused by the rocks. But the material is so coarse and heavy. I can't imagine wearing these when it's hot out, so I might as well wear pants.

    I had high hopes that these would be my new go-to hiking shorts, but the material felt rough against my thighs and I was worried they would end up chafing after a long day. I ended up sending them back.

    I agree about being too big--buy a size smaller than you normally wear. These are cute from the front or the back. The elastic in the back prevents gapping. Material stretches more than I thought, so easier to move in when bouldering or anything else outdoors. These are the perfect length-a couple inches lower than my fingers when I stand with my hands at my sides, and I'm 5'9".

    I was a little skeptical about wearing wool shorts in the summer while hiking uphill and sweating like a dog, but these are amazing. The sweat just disappears! They fit perfectly, are nice looking and seem to be very well made - the inside seams are covered. They do feel a little scratchy - the fabric is not very soft. My main complaint is that they don't have any place, like a beltloop, to hook a keyring.
