I love, love these shirts and pants. I have now given them as gifts to half my family. I have multiple sets. It amazes me how they can work in cold and milder weather. Breathable, and they don't smell. I am 5'5" 116 lbs. I have both XS and S, and they both work. I like wearing the XS under ski... Read More

  • “Overview says 4% Lycra, but Specs indicate 100% merino wool. Which is it?”
Asked by Customer from Florida on 10/4/2014 8:36:36 AM
    • My guess is that the description of 100% Merino Wool refers to the type of wool being used which is Merino - i.e., not blended with any other kind of wool. It's an important distinction as Merino comes from a certain kind of sheep breed most prized for its soft wool. The lycra a type of synthetic material that is needed in these types of thermal layers so that they can stretch and conform to the body. You can't have 100% wool in any material and expect to have flexibility or give in the material without some type of "blend."

    • I have this question with these particular type of products myself, as I like to know how much they will stretch. And in the past, I wished to have all wool. The answer is that both is true, depends from where they came/which year. To complicate things, I have ordered many (icebreaker from STP)things to discover that some items are mistakenly sent or that their can be the same item offered under a different name and price. I think STP has different models of the same base layer. I would look at the most recent reviews to see which ones you will get. I can say these were way too thin for me, almost fragile. They were like a fragile pantyhose, I would go with the 260 if you can find them or the newer version of the "vertex." In both cases, they run small. Order up. The lycra ones do grow which suits them less as a "legging, " you can get saggy knees. I think these did have lycra and were too thin. I would say avoid these and do the others I suggested, they last longer and are more durable. Cheers.
