An introduction to the merino wool that would later launch his business wasn't something the founder of Icebreaker expected from a 1994 meeting with a New Zealand sheep farmer. But when he felt the merino wool, he realized its lightweight, non-scratchy and washable warmth was a great alternative to both synthetic fabrics and traditional wool for clothing items like long underwear and performance shirts. He launched Icebreaker in 1995 and began selling merino wool clothing including long underwear, thermals and wicking T-shirts. Most of the merino wool ... Ordered this in Black/Medium, and it fits my 5'6"/130 lbs perfectly. Roomy enough for 1 regular/2 technical layers, if needed. Fabric is very smooth -- does not pick up pet hair or other lint. Gave this 4 Stars because of the pocket situation: the hip pocket wraps around toward the back of the jacket, making it easier to reach into it across your torso, with your other hand. The upper chest pocket is nice -- glad to have it -- but its placement makes it hard to carry much more than a key or card. Overall, a good stand-by to have -- cannot beat the warmth and durability of wool -- just don't plan to carry much in pockets.

Disclaimer: I own several Icebreaker shirts and am familiar with the style collections and wool weights. I'm 5'6"/130 lbs and have broad shoulders. Size Medium fits me in this style. Pros: Great weight for layering, and wool doesn't assume the 'odor' of most technical wear. Neckline and print add some intrigue to 'long underwear'. Cons: The trim Bodyfit styling makes this shirt hard to wear alone -- the fabric becomes transparent next to the skin, and it's not very forgiving of tummy 'irregularities'. Overall, a great piece for the sale price -- hands down a better-smelling alternative to others in my drawer.

I own several Icebreaker shirts and was shocked to discover how much I prefer this design to all the others, having stumbled upon it as a discontinued item! First, the feminine scoop neckline and blouse-like midsection ensure the style isn't overly technical -- it can pass as casual or even work-day wear. Second, the weight is perfect -- light enough for four-season use (if you're into sun protection, like me) but heavy enough so as to not be see-through in any color -- and I bought all of them! I'm 5'6"/130 lbs and have broad shoulders, and the Medium fits perfectly, even after washing. Less athletically-built women could pull off a Small with no problem. Cannot believe I almost missed adding this shirt to my collection. Get them before they're gone!
