Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
When I saw it, I had to have it: A midnight blue dinner jacket is a classic - almost iconic - piece of clothing, and makes a fine addition to any gentleman's wardrobe. Especially one who frequently attends formal events, as I do. Upon receipt, I was nevertheless somewhat disappointed by this item's actual appearance.
The jacket is said to come in "a tightly woven, subtly textured fabric." That just isn't the case. When I think "tight" weave, I think gabardine, and the texture is anything but subtle. In person, the nature of the fabric is visible, even at a distance. Shame on me for not zooming-in beyond 30% on the image, which would have been enough to catch the distinction. (Zoom to 100% and you'll see what I mean.)
This item also contains a tailor's label that reads "Isaia for..." an upscale Department Store, which is not precisely the same as pure "Isaia," straight from Naples, and that, friends, IS a subtle distinction, but an important one. Fortunately, the wife likes it, so I can justify the purchase. My bottom line: While I would recommend this dinner jacket to a friend (who lives in another state), I would do with the aforementioned caveat.
