Bought these for schlepping around in Chicago snow and sludge, and playing with my kids in the snow in WI. I walk a lot in the city. They're not too heavy and I never feel like I'm dragging my feet. The leather and construction is very sturdy. My feet stay toasty with some merino socks and they're quite watertight. Love Keens! I always wear a half-size bigger in their shoes, but I do wear thicker merino socks in the winter, as a rule.

Purchased by me as a gift for a beginner of snow sports. They are perfect. Usual Keen sizing so 1/2 size larger ordered. Absolutely cute boot but highly functional as well for hiking/snowshoeing in the deep snow and cold temps.

Reacting to customer reviews, and needing a boot right away, I ordered a half size up. The fit was too large overall. If I had ordered my normal shoe size, 5.5M, I expect they would have fit perfectly.

This boot has no ankle support at all. We live in a mountain town with lots of snow. I am sure they will keep my feet dry but really flimsy. I thought there would be a lot more to the boot given such high ratings. I could not pass up the great price but now sure if it will be worth the savings this winter.

These are wonderful boots in the snow and cold but be aware that the are worse then athletic shoes on ice. So big warning not to think you will have any kind of traction if the temps drop and conditions get icy. Had a very scary return home when conditions changed.
    • Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Quality Construction, Retains Warmth
    • Sizing: Feels full size too small
    • Was this a gift?: No

  • Question “This boot is only 200g insulation. I don't see how it can keep warm in snow. Would this boot keep my feet warm in 1 foot of snow, 10 degrees winter?”
Asked on 11/19/2012 12:00:00 AM by mabel from michigan
    • Answer There are number of factors that affect how warm a boot may keep you. Depending on your activity and what kind of socks and how you layer your sock. • Question “IS keens thinsulite different than different companies? I know that 200g isn't rated to very low temperatures, and normally for a winter boot I would get one for a higher rating. But I see here that you are saying it can handle very cold weather.”

  • Question “Would these boots work well for snowshoeing?”
Asked on 1/23/2012 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Unknown
    • Answer These would be great snowshoeing boots! Enjoy!
Answered on 1/24/2012 12:00:00 AM by Prod. Spec. Ryan from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer Yes, these would be great insulated waterproof calf high boots for snow-shoeing. The sole is molded, rugged and strong. I may also depend on how sturdy and solid your snow shoes are??? I have snow-shoed in Alaska and Vermont and these are on par with Sorels.

  • Question “Is the calf measurement REALLY 11"? That seems very small...”
Asked on 10/20/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Bucksport, ME
    • Answer Yes, that is the correct calf measurement. These boots aren't super high, only 9", so they would not reach the largest part of your calf.
Answered on 10/24/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from None
    • Answer These boots do not go up high enough to hit the widest part of my calves. The height from the sole of boot to the top of the boot is 11 inches. I am 5'7" and have 14 inch calves so unless you have Schwartzenegger calf muscles, these boots should be just fine.

  • Question “I have never purchased KEEN, are they true to size?... or run large? run small?”
Asked on 10/18/2011 12:00:00 AM by AJ from Scotia NY
    • Answer Most Keen styles are known to run about true to size, however, with these winter boots, I'd recommend ordering at least half a size larger to accommodate thicker winter socks.
Answered on 10/20/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from None
    • Answer According to our fit models the Keen Hoodoo Winter Boots are running true to size.
Answered on 10/21/2011 12:00:00 AM by Prod. Spec. Kevin from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer I have six pairs of Keen shoes, boots and sandals. I am 5'4" and 145 lbs and at the end of a long hike my feet can swell. I am always between an 8 and an 8.5. I bought these boots in an 8.5 and I am glad I did. When I buy their sandals I get size 8 and they fit fine but in these boots I would err on the larger size because of the socks issue. Make no mistake about it, these boots are warm but you may still want to use some smartwool socks with them.

  • Question “I was wondering if these boots could be used for hiking in a wet rain forest and on rugged lava terrain? I live in Hawaii and in one hike you can experience cold, high elevation, snow and ancient lava flows. It rains a lot where i live, Would these boots work for me?”
Asked on 10/17/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Unknown
    • Answer These boots would be perfect for you hiking conditions. They are insulated to keep your feet warm and are waterproof so you don't have to worry about getting wet.

  • Question “How true to size are these boots?”
Asked on 10/9/2011 12:00:00 AM by Melissa Lynn from Idaho
    • Answer A few Sierra Trading Post customers have recommended buying a half or full size larger than you normally wear to ensure a good fit.
Answered on 10/11/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from None
    • Answer Of the 17 reviews we have from buyers 4 recommended ordering up a half size, our fit team found them to be true to size as well as 13 of our reviewers.
