The odd shaped laces on these Keen shoes are functional: they provide a custom fit and they protect against slipping and turning one's ankle. The eight unlined eyelets provide length over the foot to give a custom lacing to your foot, whether narrow or wide, high instep or low, fat heel or skinny bone. Once laced, the high friction eyelets hold your custom lacing in place, even if you have a loose toe and tight heel. (This is a good configuration to prevent turning an ankle.) The offset toe eyelets allow the shoe to bend on the diagonal behind the toes, preventing any pinching on the smaller toes. The downside is that you have to unlace some of the eyelets when taking off the shoes and re-lace at least half way each time you put them on. The reviewer who broke his heel strap probably forced his feet into the shoes with unlacing and re-lacing. Takes extra time, but your feet will thank you. Another benefit: the outer sole is flared toward the edges, making the edges higher than the middle of the sole. This is another protection against ankle turning. Provides good grip in slippery ground. The odd shaped laces and the slightly garish color accents prevent these shoes from being business casual, but they are the ticket for fitness walking and for walking anywhere there might be slippery or uneven surfaces.

I stand on my feet all day long, I had a pair of birkenstock hiking shoes that I hadn't replaced for 3 years because I hadn't found a shoe acceptable enough to replace them. sure I'd love to buy another pair of those but at a third the cost and so far just as durable and comfortable, I'm loving these. the shoe does have the lacing directed to the toe, I like it, some of the kids have made comments about it, none to the negative just a "huh, your laces are weird."

I have a pair of Keen hiking shoes that are so comfortable, so i wanted a pair for everyday wear with the same comfort (the taller hikers are too warm to wear all the time). its the only time I've been able to order shoes based on the size and have them fit perfect. I have wide feet and most shoes are uncomfortable unless i get them a size too big. Keens are well made and fit perfect.

I purchased these for work shoes- on concrete floors all day. So far pretty good. They're a little hard to get into because the fabric lining tends to grip your socks as you slide them on. I suspect that will change as they get older. I do like the secure feel because of the strap that runs around the back of your ankle. Careful with sizing, I normally wear a 10-1/2 mens, so I ordered up a 1/2 size (as the catalog recommends) to 11, I could barely get my foot in. I ordered size 12 replacements and they're great.

Not as bulky looking as some other Keenes, comfortable, typical Keene sizing. Maybe a bit stiff.

These shoes felt great right out of the box. They are very comfortable and I think they look great. I would recommend these to someone who has an average width foot.

I wear these everyday and they look and feel good. So far they a good all around shoe. From walking kids to school to fishing along the lake. The only thing I would like would be longer shoe laces. I know that sound silly but I like to wear shoes a little loose and I tie double knots.
