This is a great all around backpack for work or travel with a laptop! I bought it to replace a wonderful Mountain Hardwear messenger bag, that I could no longer use due to medical issues. I loved the function of the messenger bag, and found the Weidler. The more I use this design, the more I like...

This is not a good pack for traveling -- especially on a plane. It has nowhere to put a bottle of water, the top pocket is not easy to keep things from spilling out, and the side-load pocket is awkward. I am constantly dropping things out of the top pocket, and anytime I need to get something out of it, I have to flip it on its side.

I bought this for my son for his senior year of high school and see the quality and design of this bag will last him into college next year. My son, who typically does not get very excited about anything I buy him, was absolutely thrilled with this bag. The interior design features are too many for me to detail. There is no exterior water-bottle pocket but with bags that included them he rarely utilized water bottle-holders anyway. The price was incredible for such a well-designed, quality bag!!

This is a strange backpack because the main compartment and laptop sleeve both open from the side, meaning that the backpack should be on the ground sideways before trying to load or unload. This is neither a good or bad thing - just different. There are handles on both the side and top, so rotating it around is easy enough. I also like the wide rubber piece on the bottem that acts as a protective layer when sitting the backpack down.
This would be too big for most students to take to class. It's more of a true day bag or a practical carry-on.
