I have always been a Kelty's fan. The one disappointment was the lack of a hydration tube hole around the top of the shoulder straps. It has a pocket that will hold a bladder, but there is not a good way to get a tube out of the pack to use while you are hiking. I got it primarily for my bicycle commute to work, so it should work out great for that.

This is a very well built pack with many great features. The pack is a little heavy but the quality makes up for it. The big side pockets with pass through design are one of my favorites. The kelty redwing fits like a glove. Sierra trading post was great to deal with. They processed my order and shipped it very quickly.

I bought the kelty for a daypack and a bear hunting pack. It has worked well for the dayhikes other than it is a little high capacity. My sister has used this pack for a one day overnighter with sufficient room for gear. High Quality pack that works well.

We haven't used these yet, we haven't even packed them but we are extremely excited about them. I ordered these because of the other reviews and the killer price. When we showed them to my brother in law he was floored at the price we go them for; he was already aware of the quality of the packs.

  • Question “Is this? a 2012 version of Kelty Redwing 50 Backpack?”
Asked on 4/23/2013 12:18:03 PM by Anatoliy from Elizabeth
    • Answer These are the 2012 version.
Answered on 4/23/2013 1:01:02 PM by Montana Gal from Sierra Trading Post
  • Question “I noticed the dimensions, (HxWxD): 25x18x14-1/2", multiply out to 6525 cubic inches. Even if these are the OUTSIDE dimensions and we take out all the space around the side pockets, it still seems too big a diparity between 6525 and 3100. What am I missing?”
Asked on 3/18/2013 1:24:55 AM by Dwight from California
    • Answer The volume of a backpack is not derived from the dimensions. Manufacturers fill the pack with 20mm balls and then pour balls into a cylinder to calculate the capacity.

  • Question “I didn't notice...is there a place to attach my sleeping pad? And as far as my sleeping bag, supplies, clothes, etc...is this a suitable pack for say up to 3 days?”
Asked on 3/4/2013 8:33:44 AM by Elizabeth from Alabama
    • Answer It would be OK for summer camping. There are various loops and attachment points on the pack. This link may give you more insight. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/backpack-guide/

  • Question “How does one measure torso size?”
Asked on 11/28/2012 12:00:00 AM by Eddie from Unknown
    • Answer Your height does not necessarily indicate your torso length. Here is how to measure your torso length. Using a tailor's tape or other flexible tape, record these two measurements before shopping for a pack. If you don't have a flexible tape, you can use a piece of yarn or cord instead, then lay the marked length of yarn on a tape measure to determine the length. Note: It really helps to have someone assist you with these measures.|•Torso: This is the length from the prominent bump at the base of your neck - the C7 vertebra - to the center point on your spine between the tops of your hip bones. Find the top of your hip bones by running your hands down your sides until you first meet your hips at the iliac crest, then envision an imaginary line between your thumbs at the top of your hips along your back.

  • Question “Are the aluminum stays removable?”
Asked on 11/21/2012 12:00:00 AM by Katty from New york
    • Answer I have a Redwing 3100 from 8 years ago. Awesome backpack. Design looks similar. The aluminum stay in mine is removable and can be bent/formed to better fit the curvature of your spine.

  • Question “Is this a suitable bag for a female?”
Asked on 11/8/2012 12:00:00 AM by Roniann from United States
    • Answer Yes this pack would be suitable for a female. I would recommend measuring your torso to be sure it is the right length. It fits torsos that are 17.5" to 21" long. This link will help you with how to measure your torso.|http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/backpack-guide/
