Judging by the other great reviews this tent has received I think I must have been unlucky and got a bad tent. [...] I then did a test erect in the back garden and caught a good shower that night. I'm glad I was snug in my own bed for the test run because the next morning the tent contained a giant puddle.I also found the rain flaps around the door a bit of a nuisance as they would get caught in the zip unless you really paid attention, and I think the rain fly was a little skimpy. Also, as it's a close out it's impossible to find the matching footprint anymore so be prepared with homemade tarps cut to shape if you are a footprint advocate. On the plus side I think I would have considered swapping it for another Rio Grande 6 if I'd had enough of a time frame to accomplish this before I was due to take the family camping. It was really easy for one person to erect and strike down. Fairly lightweight for a car camping tent and seemed to be a good size for my family of two adults, toddler, baby and dog. The big windows and ventilation seemed great. One star rating from me because really, it's a tent and when it comes down to it the main purpose is to keep you dry and sheltered, and it failed.

Bought the tent for family camping, read several reviews saying that it was a great tent and no prep required prior to use. The weather condition for my trip were as follows; light to medium rain for 10 hours and wind 5-10 mph. 4 hours into the storm the tent started to leak a little, I usually expect a seam of two to leak on a new tent. However, after returning from a two hike we found that a pool had built up in the floor of the tent and every seam on the tent and rain fly was not just leaking but letting water pour in.
The only positives for the tent were the ease of set up for a tent that size and the outstanding ventalation, which was a life saver on the first night of our 4 night campout when it was 80 degrees and humid at night.

The Kelty Rio 6 Grande was prefect for the two adults, two giggly 12 yr old girls, one lap dog, and all of our clothing. Privacy was good.
During the 45-deg nights of Northern Wisconsin we wondered how effective the ceiling ventilation system would be during more normal summer temperatures.
Two teen aged boys slept in the Kelty Merced 6 with a medium size dog, it's kennel, and all of their clothing. They had room to spare.
Our Keltys have been a great addition to our camping family. We hope to use them again soon.

Just a head's up for everyone: The Floor Plan diagram is incorrect. The floor is roughly 88 x 168, not 108 x 156 as shown! (No fault of Sierra Trading Post...they just copied Kelty's error on the tag!) Great looking tent, but unfortunately it is being returned....

We've switched to car camping since having kids and I must say the comfort is nice. We love the tent. It holds a pack and play easily along with 3 adults and all our baby stuff. Does need a ground cover.

We set this tent up in 35 mph winds and it did great! Set up is a snap and it is very spacious! We can easily fit our family of five in with lots of room to spare (our kids are all under 10), but even five adults would be comfortable! Definitely get a tarp to put under it - the same as any other tent. The construction is good - we look forward to many more years of use!
