I use it walking the dog in early morning and late night to keep the winter chill at bay.

I have very sensitive skin and have difficulties with dryness every winter. So, I finally broke down and ordered something to cover my face that stays in place as opposed to a scarf that moves around and loosens periodically. A very practical purchase for me.

This was really tight around my face. My head isn't huge, still felt like a kid's balaclava. Just too tight around my FACE son. Fabric felt very soft and I'm sure it would of been warm and comfy to wear had it fit correctly.

I wore this under a hard hat while working outdoors in Alaska. This kept me warm for the brief periods I used it. I only wish it were a bit longer in the back, especially when stretched around my chin rather than up over my nose (I wore it with a respirator at times). With a collared jacket, there should be plenty of overlap though. This is definitely a heavier balaclava than I've owned before.

Going above the Arctic Circle in Norway, in Feb-March 2013. Does not fit - the opening cuts into my vision from below.

  • Question “I have a large head and one-size-fits-all generally doesn't fit me. How, would this fit someone with a 7 5/8 hat size?”
Asked on 10/24/2011 12:00:00 AM by Donald from Mississippi Gulf Coast
  • Question “Is there any seam in this balaclava? If not, which are the ones without seams?”
Asked on 5/3/2010 12:00:00 AM by Jay from CA
    • Answer The only seams in this balaclava are on the border surrounding the face and neck.

  • Question “Is this item designed to cover the mouth and nose so the opening is just for the eyes? Also, would you consider this lightweight, midweight, or heavyweight?”
Asked on 4/19/2010 12:00:00 AM by Mark from Florida
    • Answer This is a midweight material. You can choose to pull it over your nose or leave it down. It can be worn a few ways.
Answered on 4/19/2010 12:00:00 AM by Customer Care from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer I'd say it's mid- to heavy-weight; opening is for the eyes but, depending on one's head size, it could possibly stretch comfortably below the nose, though if used for snow sports I wouldn't recommend that.
Answered on 4/29/2010 12:00:00 AM by horse mom from new windsor, md
    • Answer The opening is stretchy, so you can wear it covering just chin, chin and mouth, or chin mouth and nose. I would consider it midweight. Very warm. Great coverage of neck.
Answered on 12/14/2010 12:00:00 AM by Walking for fun from Ohio
    • Answer This product can cover the nose and mouth, so just the eyes are exposed. If you want less warmth, just pull it down to expose the nose, and if enough room, the mouth. I can pull my balaclava up over my face, so just my ears, head are covered. Pretty darn adjustable piece! Just buy the design/fit that can do expose or cover what you want.
