I just did a walk in single digit temps with about a 15mph breeze and this band kept my ears toasty. It's large enough to completely cover the ear for most people, so you don't have to keep shifting it around to stay warm.

Just having weathered the "Polar Vortex" of 2014, I am very pleased with this item. My corgi loves the cold (-10 wind chill is right up her alley). I was able to spend 30 minutes plus outside with her. I have a great North Face coat. I would pull up the hoodie over this ear band and I was comfortable. I also used it yesterday on a 11/2 hour bike ride with wind chills around 45. My ears never got cold. When I got home, I was surprised how much I had sweated in the ear band, but I never noticed it while I was riding. I have bought several more of these to "squirrel away" for the future.

I believe Windbloc fleece is one of the greatest technical fabrics ever made. Bought this for my wife before a trip to Alaska in December. She told me it works wonderfully well and she loves the way it keeps her ears warm and protected from icy winds.

My head circumference at temple height is 21" and this is more than 2" too big (I am a slight build adult female). It would probably fit an average-sized adult just fine, but too big for most children for sure. Simply fix with a sewing machine if you don't mind the hassle.
