This bag has been across the pond a few times, and has even been secured to our car's luggage rack in the Middle East, AND it still looks brand new. The bag can hold a ton of stuff. So much so that you'll have to be careful with how much you pack or you'll incur an overweight airline charge. The bag has built-in bungee cord hoooks with metal snaps that make it easy to attach the bag to a roof top car luggage rack. This is the best big piece of luggage we have ever purchased. And we know luggage. My wife has worked for the airlines for over 23 years.

This is a roomy bag but difficult to use in a hotel setting unless you completely unload it. While we managed to avoid oversize bag fees twice on our trip to Alaska, note that this bag is oversized by Continental Airline standards by a full ten inches (72" vs allowed 62"). So on CO you could face fees of $50 each way for an oversized bag. But probably great for camping trips where you need to strap the bags to a rooftop carrier to leave room in the car or SUV.

The handle on this bag broke off after it's first flight. The bag is also very hard to handle with the top handle off and you really need to remove it before checking it as it is a snag hazard. I would not recommend this bag to others unless you don't fly with it. I am in the process of returning this bag.

We bought this for a trip later in the summer so haven't really tried it out yet. We did a practice run packing it though and it definitely holds alot! I'm not sure I like the hard plastic bars that give it shape--but they are removal. Removing them might make it more "duffel-like" (which I think might be good). Would I recommend? Depends on what you are looking for. In any case, again, too early to really tell.

I ordered one of these for my college bound son who is going across the country and when it arrived immediately ordered another. It has an odd shape but I feel is well made and holds an enormous amount of stuff. I haven't taken it on an airline yet so I have yet to see how it will travel. Can not beat it for the price paid.

I am shopping for smaller bags by Kiva because I like this one so much. Haven't found any prices lower[...] Will continue to shop at Sierra, thanks.

This is a very large rolling duffle, almost too big. I could see it would be bulky for people flying a lot. This is NOT something that will stow in the overhead compartment inside the cabin; it is something to be checked. What it IS good for is rooftop luggage racks. It has built-in elastic fasteners to mount to a luggage rack, and a built-in nylon cover to keep the bugs off your nice luggage. I have purchased two of these-- one for the wife and me to share, the other for the kids to share-- so that we can just put both on the roof for summer trips and keep the cabin of the SUV free of large luggage with more room for other things and kids.

This bag is perfect for transporting breakdown travel fishing rods. Four 31 inch rod tubes fit perfectly in the bottom lockable compartment. The top leaves more than ample room for clothes and additional gear. I can also secure the top with a small lock as well. A better value than other options on the market.

Was looking forward to buying this bag. Finally arrived and realized that despite all of its features and top quality construction, that the volume was less 10,000 cu inches. Notice that some manufactures list the volume as a rectangular dimension, simply multiplying L x W x H. This produces a rectangular shape, which is generally true of most bags. This bag, however, is not rectangular. Given the shape of the top, I would surmise that you have about 8000 cu in. This bag is large, but it is not huge. I have other 10000 cu inch bags for hauling our ski and cycle equipment, and this bag was noticeably smaller in capacity, so much so that I had to return it. Neat features include detachable handle and anchor points for a roof rack. Materials and zippers are some of the best I've seen or used. The drop bottom, also, is relatively shallow compared to other drop bottom bags--good for shoes but not for ski boots.
