I had high hopes for this bag given the reviews it got. It looks nice on the website. When it arrive, I was quite happy with it. It is a good size, nice fabric. BUT it had a serious flaw that cannot be overlooked. For some reason, the shoulder strap digs into my shoulder. It doesn't matter if I use it on my left or right shoulder. Instead of lying flat on my shoulder with the whole width of the shoulder pad resting on my shoulder, the strap would tilt on its side and the seems would dig in. I tried lengthening the strap, shortening the strap, and various positions, but no matter what I did, the strap would turn on its side. I returned this item. There's no way I could carry anything in it.. with the strap the way it is.

I actually ordered the bag to carry as a day bag while traveling. Unless you are a huge man, the bag is a bit large for carrying on long walks. The bag's size, however, makes it a nice carry-on bag. It has lots of pockets and the construction is excellent.

This bag is great! The sunfire color is also very attractive.

A terrific bag that looked a tad too big on the initial inspection but, it turned out to be the perfect size for my needs. I can fit a plethora of items ( iPad, kindle,headphones, iPod,travel speaker,etc ) in the bag and still have room for snacks, magazines and water bottles. It is well constructed and appears to be made of a durable synthetic material. I am sure that it will serve me well.

Looks durable enough to serve as a shopping.bag.

i got one for my daughter in law. it's a good to have an extra bag for the grand kids.

This fabric is a little thin for any heavier weight items

works great, but the laptop sleeve is a little large and bulky makes the whole bag pretty wide. But overall is a great bag

I was looking for a backpack the same size as a JanSport pack that I've had for many years but with an external pocket for a water bottle (absent on the JanSport). This pack is an excellent upgrade. I've never owned any Rick Steves products before but figured that he would only put his name on something he had personally tested and found to be practical and of high quality. The straps of this pack are well padded and ergonomically positioned for comfort. There are 2 firm pads on the pack itself that rest against your back. The sternum strap keeps the shoulder straps from sliding and helps keep the pack from bouncing around. There are so many pockets that it can be hard to remember what is in each one if you use them all. The only other tradeoffs that make the pack "almost" perfect are that the water bottle pocket is at the back just off-center, which is good for weight distribution but makes it a little difficult to access while wearing the pack; and the pack itself is a bit heavy (hence more durable). One nice feature that I didn't see in any other reviews is that the zipper pulls have holes at the ends so that you could add a small lock for extra security. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and the great price from Sierra Trading Post!

This bag has been across the pond a few times, and has even been secured to our car's luggage rack in the Middle East, AND it still looks brand new. The bag can hold a ton of stuff. So much so that you'll have to be careful with how much you pack or you'll incur an overweight airline charge. The bag has built-in bungee cord hoooks with metal snaps that make it easy to attach the bag to a roof top car luggage rack. This is the best big piece of luggage we have ever purchased. And we know luggage. My wife has worked for the airlines for over 23 years.
