I know, ski poles are ski poles. These Komperdell's are special simply because they LOOK so nice. They're graphite poles, so extremely light but prone to breakage, so keep that in mind if you plan to use them in the backcountry. The bamboo is a thin veneer that completely covers the length of the poles without adding much weight. Together with the leather grips and pole straps, they are a very classic appearing pair of poles. Cannot speak to the durability of the veneer yet, but these are cool poles! As an aside, I ordered the large leather baskets that are sold here at STP to complete the classic look, but they are incompatible without some McGuyver'ing.
