The poles seem like they will work out well. They fit in the suitcase and are very lightweight. We haven't used them in Alaska yet, but plan on using them on a trip to AZ this winter. My husband who is the outdoor person seemed to like them. Time will tell. I am the prissy hiker so he will break them in I am sure.

After doing a lot of research on poles for a trip, I chose these. Then I found out that the tour operator is supplying them for guests.

I just returned from a walking trip across England. The poles were very helpful, especially on the downhills and when the trails were wet and slippery. I made a little bag for the poles and carried them onto the airplane without problem. (They were too long for my carry-on luggage, and I didn't check luggage.) I gave it 4 stars because at one point one pole didn't collapse, but finally did. Also, I had to call to find out how the spring action feature worked. It would have been nice if they had included at least some written directions. (I returned the poles and received a new pair, which has --so far--worked properly.)

I use these due to a pinched sciotic nerve which can cause me temporary paralysis, but I refuse to curl up and give up on the outdoors, these seem to reduce the frequency/severity of injuries/muscle spasms I incurr. I use these to help with some light hiking over uneven terrain. The anti-shock reduces the jaring when traversing downhillor over uneven terrain. I love the fact that these are infinately adjustable. The twist-lock is secure and has never slipped as of the time of this evaluation. Have had them for over 6 monthsand even use them around town. On the next memeber special I'm thinking about picking-up another pair! Don't forget the wslking tips for around town or sand/graval pavement.
