Serves my purpose, I didn't want big & bulky, this is the streamlined version I wanted. The straps are a light to med weight. Ea side will hold 2-3 bottles of water. This is a lightweight backpack that would probably work well for walking your dog around town. However, it is NOT a good hiking backpack. It does have 3 straps (2 on the bottom, 1 in the front), which helps it stay on without slipping over rugged terrain. The saddlebags are attached on the top with 4 snaps, though, so the bags can easily be disconnected from the vest-like attachment around the dog. I should have super-glued the snaps together, but instead we lost the top packs partway through our 2nd outing with these bags (I carried the bags myself half of the first trip because I was concerned about this). Now I have a dog vest with 2 very small pockets. Luckily it was cheap to try.

The bag is made well. It stays in one place and my dog runs crazy through the woods. The only downfall is the "possibility" of the storage pouches to fall off. They are snapped on to the body portion of the bag so if your dog does run though, for example, tight westcoast brush the storage bags can unsnap and fall off.

I read a review that mentioned how the compartments snap off, and you have a harness-like carrier with 2 zippered pockets. I have been using these without the compartments for around town walks. The dogs carry their own waste bags, kleenex, etc. Plus it puts the dogs "on duty". I l like that these sit mostly over their front shoulders, rather than their backs. I HAD thought maybe I could put their good behavior reward treats in there..........yeah, that didn't work. I have 2 other packs for the dogs but these are the best. I have two 65 lb. Vizslas and the large is just right. Just 4 stars because these will not last forever, as they are not really good quality.

Fit-I have a 60 lb shepard mix pup, 9 mo old---fit is great w/ plenty of room for growth. Once she's grown, I can trim the straps, if need.
    It doesn't have a D-ring for a leash--but I can have one added at a shoe shop.
This is light/med duty -- not a heavy duty pack, but fine for my use.
