You really get what you pay for. You need to be very careful trying to stake this into the ground, because the plastic spike can break really easy. Once it's broken the only way to use it is to put some kind of band (zip ties) around the gauge to secure it to a post or stake. The numbers are really visible, at least. I suggest only using the base to mount it to a post or pole. It does not come with screws for mounting. The plastic is very brittle.

Attractive gauge has wonderfully large numbers our aged eyes can read from inside our dry, warm house when hung on cedar post on the patio. Husband attached very carefully & slowly, but plastic base was cracked by one screw. It's still firmly attached, but it's very hard to slide off of base to empty the water accumulated. May try W-D 40. Would probably not be problem if installed in the ground. Would spend more to get available La Crosse with another design.
