I purchased these boots based on a friends' recommendation. I needed some backpacking boots for a trip that would take me camping out in the wilderness for 2 months. To break them in, it took about 5 good hikes. I still haven't gotten any blisters or achilies tendon which i am prone to get. The ankle support is effective with the softer material used for the ankle bone. I did have to use waterproofing spray and buy a different foot support because the one it came with didn't offer much. Overall, I would recommend this boot to others because the cons were easily fixed.

This brand is great for a narrower foot and heel. Although they are a bit heavy, my foot was comfortable immediately. Very cushiony around the ankles, yet held firmly in place. Light color does get dirty quickly, but I treated it with a stain protector and boots are supposed to look hiked in! I do hikes over varied/rough terrain for 6 or more hours and these boots are up to the task. I do add extra arch support, though, as my own preference.

I purchased these boots about a year ago and I have yet to wear them without coming home with blisters. I've worn them with all combinations of socks, insoles and finally started using duct tape on my feet to try to prevent the blisters. I am totally discouraged with the boots. If I'd have known they would never break in, I would have sent them back. Although they say they are water resistant, I generally come home with wet feet as well. I gave them more than a fair shot and unfortunately will have to shell out more money for a new pair of backpacking boots. Oh, and be prepared to stop and tie up your laces about every 20 minutes.

(Ref. my previous review regarding hole) STP replaced my first pair, no problem. Received them end of Oct. '09. Wore these only about 9 or 10 times including 2 or 3 hikes in snow or rainy conditions, and already the water resistance is kaput. My feet were soaked today after 10 miles in melting snow and some light occasional drizzling (had gaiters on too). Traction remains great, pretty comfortable for my wide feet, but still very disappointing given the GorTex Waterproof claim...

Very nice looking boot that feels great from the first wear. A bit stiff, but they break in wonderfully.

I was looking for an everyday boot for cold, wet weather (it has been extremely cold and pretty snowy in Iowa this year). I have been primarily wearing them around town, but I definitely feel as though they would be great for day hikes. Traction is good and warmth is fine when moving (feet sometimes feel a little cold when I'm not moving). My only concern is that my toes get kind of numb when I am standing for an extended period, but I'm not sure I can blame the boot for this! I typically wear women's size 7.5 or 8 shoes; I ordered these in 39.5 and they fit great. I have received many compliments on these boots and actually ordered a second pair so that I can replace these when they eventually wear out!

Love these boots. My husband had a pair that he wore for two years EVERY day. Boots don't usually last that long with him so I was sold on them just from that. Now I have my own pair and LOVE them. Just be aware they are stiff for the first couple days.

Very little break-in required. I was happy for 2 dayhikes, but the 3rd time I took these out-- for a week-long trip-- the seam betw the nubuck & rubber guard on the instep of my left foot developed a hole big enough to insert my index finger. Very disappointing. Glad it didn't rain since i didn't bring backup boots.

I believe that these were made when La Sportiva was owned by North Face and they shipped all production of their shoes to China. For a boot that is considered for moderate to heavy loads, the materials are flexible and cheap. The foam ankle insert is synthetic piece of nothingness with ample room for water to seep into that seam. I returned mine upon arrival. [...]get something more durable and better constructed.
