I do a lot wkend day hikes and the Lafuma XLight is perfect for what I need them for. My only comment is that the traction is a little soft and tends to slide more than I like.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
This is a great shoe for casual and day hikes, and also for wet weather. Though I rate it 4 stars and am happy overall, I have two minor quibbles: 1) The shoe seems to run a full size small (the consensus on this web site was to buy a half-size larger, but I find even that is a bit snug); and 2) The dual lacing system is confusing for a beginner like me and definitely not idiot-proof. Lafuma is a French company, so their lacing instructions consist not of text but of three tiny and useless illustrations. If you've ever had trouble assembling Ikea furniture, believe me, you'll also have trouble with this.

Just like the description says, this shoe is a great blend of a trail runner and hiking shoe. I've only had it for a few weeks, so I cannot comment on durability, but it appears to be very well constructed. The outdry waterproofing was a big selling point for me. No wet days yet, but I soaked them for several minutes in the shower to test waterproofing, and it worked well. Dried very quickly - within a few hours. The soft uppers are comfortable, and the outsole seems to offer a good bit of stability. The shoes seem sturdy for hiking with a light pack, yet they feel nice running as well. I have a narrow heel and wide forefoot, and I like the lacing system for my feet. A note about fit - I got a size 11. They were a bit snug for me out of the box in the forefoot and toe box, and although there is no heel slippage, there is a good bit of room in the heel. I think a 1/2 size up would be too large. I wear 10 1/2 in most keens and in one pair of Patagonias (Cabot) I've worn; typically 11 in most other shoes because I need the extra width. If you have a wider than average foot you may want to consider going up a half size. I wore them for an hour or so indoors for several days, and they have broken in nicely. Also, the excellent deal at STP makes it a great value buy in my opinion.

The lacing system is fantastic as you can precision adjust in two places with a quick pull.
Their traction is good ---only thing was I had to add an extra gel foot pad to make it feel perfect.
The ankle collar is a bit over padded for its need--but not uncomfortable it's just bulky looking.
