Verified Buyer Reviewed by Geckostev from california on Tuesday, May 27, 2014This is a good reel. Smooth and nice adjustment on the drag.
Reviewed by ACK from So. Calif. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013Excellent discontinued reel. Be aware that the new Litespeed models will not accept spools from this discontinued model. This reel is very smooth in both drag and an retrieve. The Hard Alox is very scratch resistant. Large arbor design provides fast pick-up.
The 3X is only different from 3 in that it has a slight "vee" in the spool which increases line capacity. The spools for the 3X and the 3 will fit the same the same frame. But again, they do not fit the most recent model of the Litespeed.
Reviewed by the fish story from Utah on Thursday, October 31, 2013Lamson makes an excellent reel. Very smooth drag. Highly recommended.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Fisher Man from Charlotte, NC on Thursday, December 8, 2011Lamson did a great job on this reel and Sierra Trading Post's pricing makes it even better. This is a quality reel that works well with newer light weight rods. The only negative is that you cannot change spools while fishing (i.e. when the reel is wet).
- Best Uses: Freshwater, inshore saltwater
- Cons: Can't change spools - wet
- Pros: Lifetime warranty, Quality durability, Spool capacity
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Adam from Denver, CO on Tuesday, November 8, 2011Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I'm very impressed with how light the reel is. The finish is also great - very scratch resistant.
- Pros: Lightweight, Scratch resistant

“What does it weigh? What is the "case" made in China, part of the reel or the pouch it's stored in? And how does the Litespeed series compare to the Velocity line?”
This item weighs 4.4 oz. The pouch that it is stored in is referred to as the case.
4.7 ounces. Case made in China refers to the neoprene storage case. Reel is made in USA.
Litespeed is more highly machined and therefore lighter. 4.7 ounces for the Litespeed vs 5.1 ounces for the same size Velocity.
Drag mechanism is the same. Hard Alox Finish on both.
Litespeed was redesigned in 2012 or 2013. That is why these are so cheap. Thing to remember is that the spools on the new
models are NOT compatible with the old model being sold here.
