Very impressed with the quality of this reel. Super light, superb machining, and very tight tolerances. Drag is phenomenal with a ton of range. My first lamson reel, but definately not my last.

This reel delivers excellent balance between quality, weight and spool capacity. Those of us with 8WT + spey rods quickly realize that the required extra spool capacity for larger rods leaves us with very few choices, many of which are quite pricey. Luckily Lamson provides us with a few options, including this Velocity model (now discontinued). It is fully machined and comes with a choice of two finishes, making it very durable. I also love the sealed drag system, which I find to be very consistent and completely maintenance-free. Overall I am very happy with this reel and I really like the way it looks on my rod.

I am big Fan of Lamson Reels, I like the way they fell on the right rod. This Lamson V4 is the lightist ,smoothest, and room for a lot of line for all those long runs. A super reel !!

Third Lamson reel I've purchased. Have been very pleased with all of them and would recommend the Velocity 4 to anyone who wants a quality product. Perfect for a 7 to 8 weight spey rod. Has enough room for plenty of backing, running line, shooting head and what ever tip and leader you want to put on. Lite and you can set the drag and be confident that it will do the job.

About Lamson

When Lamson designers and engineers set about to revolutionize fly fishing reels, they threw out the existing assumptions and started from scratch. Beginning with a blank piece of paper, they re-designed, re-thought, and re-tooled fly fishing reels to achieve a crucial balance and optimal performance. Lighter materials like titanium and polymers took the place of steel, wood and cork. Simplified designs meant fewer components, lighter weight and amazing longevity. Along the way, Lamson shaved so much weight from the reel that larger, better-retrieving arbors were incorporated into the design. They topped off their list of impressive advancements with a high performance, conical polymer alloy drag system. The result? Precisely machined fly fishing reels constructed from space age materials that are so light, they seem to defy gravity.
