A reel for less than the price of a spare spool most other places

Bought this reel for my 8wt. spey rod for fishing in the salt. Drag system is highly adjustable in small incraments. Completely sealed bearings and drag. Comparable, if not nicer than other much more expensive reels. After recieving and using for a few weeks, I bought two more!!

I haven't had a chance to try this reel on the water, bur from what I can tell it will be a nice addition to my collecton. Fully sealed drag is a huge plus, although it is a bit tight when trying to screw it down. I guess we'll see if the extra elbow grease required to really crank the drag down is worth the effort when you get a substantial red hooked. My guess is it will be. This reel balanced my 9' 9 weight rod very well.

Perfect for a 0-3 weight line. Light weight easy to maintain. Good looking highly reccomend.

Bought the reel for salt water fly fishing. Matched it to an Echo 2 8wt rod, nicely balanced. The large arbor design and sealed drag should serve me well. Same reel as current model except for finish (who cares?) but [$]

The 10 wt. Velocity holds 250 yards of 30lb. backing, and can handle big bull trout in fast rivers, pike, salmon, permit, trevally, and tarpon under 70lbs. Very smooth action, consistent drag with hardly any transition "feel". Easy to clean, and the drag system isn't cheap plastic, like many other high priced reels out there. Lamson's construction is durable, and fresh or saltwater ready. Paired up with a good rod, this set up will have you ready for anything in freshwater, and more than you can handle in the salt.

I have other Lamson reels that I am very happy with that utilize the same drag system. I bought this small frame reel for use on a 2wt 7' rod for hiking and backpacking into small streams and its perfect. Although it might be considered a little heavy, that's only because I put it on a super lightweight rod and even then its not noticeable and still balances well. Great drag system but lets be honest, a reel this small will likely go on very lightweight rod and you're not relying on the drag too much in normal conditions but it sure is nice to know its there. Fit and finish are super. The reel actually can hold a surprising amount of line and backing so I would think that you could get away with loading 4wt line on it with minimal backing and it would still balance well with a light 4wt rod. At this price I'm considering getting one of the larger reels as a backup to my current Lamson reel.
