Lauren by Ralph Lauren Herringbone Sport Coat - Wool (For Men)

This is my third Lauren sport coat. Love the product.

I purchased yet another Ralph Lauren Sportcoat for my husband...the fit is wonderful, and always true to size. The price was a STEAL! Overall quality is very good, although I don't see the tan in the herringbone pattern. No matter, this coat can be worn with jeans, khakis, and even wool dress pants for more formal occasions.

I had tried a very similar appearing sport coat at a high end store in NYC recently which was much more pricey, same brand name. I would have bought it except they did not have my size. After seeing this at Sierra Trading Post, I thought I got a wonderful bargain at first. Only this one did not fit at all, seemingly having no contour. Also the material was not smooth and pliable, rather stiff, reminding to recycled wool. Was it the real thing actually ? I returned it.

I wear either suits or sport coats every day, and own a number of this brand, both suit and sport coat. I've always been partial to Ralph Lauren until this coat arrived; the fabric is very uncomfortable and poor in hand. It feels more like a sport coat from the 1920s, rather than the excellent drape and hand of the other Lauren coats and suits I own. I returned it, and can't recommend it at all.

I hesitate to say that the Ralph Lauren Herringbone Sport Coat is too big or irregular in size or that it's fabric is inferior. Not all that is woolen has the feel of cashmere. I will say that in contrast to other Ralph Lauren coats that I own, it is of a fuller cut and less distinct shape. My tailor referred to it as "boxy." In the same breath, he said what a distinguished looking piece it was/could be and that with some minor alterations it would probably become a favorite of my winter wardrobe. I completely agree. The price would be hard to beat, too.
