The locking device on these poles (to adjust length) is the twist kind. They are difficult to operate and unreliable. I tried two sets of these poles before deciding to go with a different brand with snap locks.

Bought these for a relative because his outfitter recommended these specific poles for hiking up Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Strong and dependable.

    Pros:
Easy to adjust, Strong, Very Light Weight
    Cons:
Hand grip need more angle, Rubber tips are extra, Vibrate when placed
    Best Uses:
    Hiking
    Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I use these hiking the mountains of Northern New Hampshire with very rugged terrain. These help those steep climbs and descents. The grip needs a little more angle to be ergonomic. The poles have a vibration when placed in a hearty manner. It reverberated to the hand grip. They have a little more flexibility than I like in a hiking pole. I wasn't sure they would really support me a few times. I passed them off to a friend who doesn't hike as much. To clarify my selection below, they are just fine for average hiking on easier terrain. But I would not buy them again. I would get sturdier poles. I was also disappointed that I had to buy extra tips for them if I were to use them on a paved trail. They should be included.
