    So far, the shovel worked great for digging out my car after a big dump, but might as well work great in an avalanche. The thing is comfortable, lightweight and quite sturdy. There is little play in the expandable handle connections but it doesn't seem to be affecting the function. The folded size is not much different from the other avalanche shovels that I have seen.

    Used it on a snow camping trip with a Boy Scout troop near Mt Baker Washington. Blade doubles as an insulator between snow and stove (careful blade could melt if you're not careful). Collapses well. Handle a little bit "wobbly" but effective enough. Hard to dig in icy snow. Okay in conjunction with ice ax.
