Closeouts. The Life-Link Pit Boss avalanche shovel has reinforced sidewalls, stiffening ribs and an integrated welded sleeve to eliminate the classic weak points of extended-neck avalanche shovels. Powder-coated aluminum blade is extremely resistant to rust and sticking snow.
  • Extendable design
  • Focused on pit shaping with less dish for shaving sides
  • 11-½” blade length for exact shovel shear tests
  • Designed for avalanche safety, but great for building big-air kickers
  • Heavy-duty but very lightweight and packable
  • Holes in blade and handle for easy lashing to pack
  • T-grip handle
  • Length: 27” retracted, 40” extended
  • Blade: 11-½x10”
  • Weight: 1 lb. 10 oz.
  • Materials:
  • Powder-coated aluminum blade
  • Anodized aluminum shaft
  • Closeouts. USA.

Works. Tough. Compact enough. Take in truck. I'm mostly inbounds, so I don't usually take it skiing/boarding but it is light enough. Light and tough is always a compromise on one side or the other. This one goes more towards tough. Great product, just not ultralight.

I got this to put in my car for the winter. I sometimes park on the street, away from home, and needed a shovel that would fit in the trunk to dig myself out if a snowplow trapped me. I am only 5'4", but the handle seems a bit short for me, so that I would have to bend my knees a little. But it is great for an emergency. Very sturdy. The T-handle will take a little getting used to, and no good for mittens, so the D-handle might be worth the extra $.

Strong shovel, multi-useful, will use for everything from digging out the kid's 4WD to carrying in pack on longer snow shoe excursions. A great deal too!
