There are a lot of cheap fire sticks out there, and a lot of overly-complicated mechanical ones, but this is the one stick you need. It's thick enough (1/4") to last through many uses, and it comes with its own hardened steel scraper. Pack this and a piece of 0000 steel wool or otheer tinder in a small bag in the corner of your daypack, or in a belt pouch, and you're well prepared to start fires in a pinch.

It fulfills the purpose, but there are better firesteel products available. It sparks less than expected.

Was able to get this to build a fire no problem after a little practice however my 12 year old son had trouble aiming the sparks to successfully start the fire.
