I think you need to check with the airline you are flying. You have to strike them together to get a spark, so if you pack it in checked luggage, it may be fine.

The name "FireSteel" comes directly from Light My Fire and I agree it can be a little confusing, but the fire starter is made of magnesium. Enjoy!
