The insole was almost none. Felt like not having shoes on at all. Tried them on for about 10 minutes and put them back in the box for return. These might work for hanging around a campsite but walking even on level terrain would get old fast.

i've been wearing these to clean roofs. the traction is great on metal and they're cool and comfortable all day. the narrow "footprint" (no protruding sole edges)feels very nimble and i look forward to using them for bouldering and climbing.i replaced the wimpy insoles with thicker ones;hope this will improve the thin-feeling sole. probably not heavy enough for large load backpacking, and not sure how durable, but i like them

For the money these shoes are great. The soles might be a bit thin but time will tell when summer is here.

I have used these boots on 3 steep hikes, up and down. Probably covered 25 miles so far. They were remarkably comfortable. Traction on rock and scree has been just fine. That is in spite of the fact the sole does not look too aggressive. I have not been in really wet conditions so I can't say they are waterproof yet.

Ask any hiking boot sales person and they will tell you - Support comes from the sole or shank of the boot. I bought these boots online thinking the only thing I have to worry about was size. Sierra trading post is very true to getting you the correct fit. I was looking for an inexpensive boot intended use is for day hikes, house work and motorcycle riding. The boots arrived promptly and fit great. I was disappointed. I never experienced a boot that lacked the foot bed shank. The shank usually keeps rocks from poking up and it keeps the foot stable in uneven terrain too. I did not realize some one made a tall weatherproof slipper. I was disappointed that the boot had less support than my Colodado made hiking sandals. I would only recommend this foot wear for short trips to the store in cool wet conditions, and in areas where stable footing is not required. If you have strong ankles, add a set of super foot beds and you might be-able complete 2 hour hike on groomed trails. End result, you can do more with a set of trail running shoes and get better cushion too.

These are nice boots, but they were very narrow. My husband wears the Lowa Renegade normally, and these were much narrower. I returned them quite some time ago and am still waiting for a credit. Not happy at all.

Lowa does not list this as a hiking boot. It is categorized as a "walking" boot. The thin sole makes this evident. Very light shoe, but with very little cushion. Sole is insufficient for rocky terrain. Trails: yes; hiking: no. As a walking shoe, this would be okay with better insoles. Cannot recommend for hiking. Decent city shoe.

For the Sierra Trading Post price, these are an awesome buy. Just don't expect to be wearing them on cross-country trailbreaking. The soles are thin and traction is fine on groomed or marginally rough surfaces, but get this out on some serious slopes or scree and you'll lose it. Stick to decent trails, city streets and you'll be fine. Don't let moisture scare you -- these things are part duck.
