To update my previous review: I got these in September and have used them several times a week since then, including in the snow and in the mud. They still repel water - the leather does not even get surface-wet until an hour or more of walking in the snow and the water has not soaked through all the way to my feet during three-hour walks in the snow. If you wait for mud to dry, you can brush it off completely and they look new - not muddy. The thick lug sole seems to make wet-mud removal easier than boots with less tread. There has been not much wear on the soles after several hundred miles of use. They will keep your feet warm during winter hikes, but they are not as warm as insulated winter boots and your feet will get cold if you are inactive in the cold. I cannot comment on the arch support because I use custom footbeds, and discarded the insoles that came with the boots. I STILL LOVE them after half a year of regular use and expect to be using them for 3-4 years or more with resoling and waterproofing. Order about 1-1/2 sizes smaller than your normal size (I wear a 7 or 7-1/2 and size 6 fit perfectly).

I purchased these boots 4 years ago after a very long search for a high quality leather boot for women, and by now I have had that pair resoled. The leather is still in great condition despite lots of hiking in rough and wet terrain, and my not conditioning them as often as I should. :). Therefore I decided to order another pair from Sierra Trading Post, even though my 4-year-old boots will probably last another 5 years or more. I spent so much time trying on boots four years ago, that I thought I'd get a pair new pair to use in the future. I love these boots and wear them year round when hiking, backpacking, doing yard work, and more.

I bought a half size smaller than my normal size after reading other reviews. They fit perfectly! These boots are great for hiking or back packing. Light and comfortable. Good lacing system. I am sure I will get many years of use from them!

This boot is not for day hikes or going ultralight. It is a heavy, durable great boot for serious backpacking.
