This is my second pair of these boots and both pairs were sized 1-1/2 to 2 sizes too big: I wear about a 7-1/2 so I (stupidly) ordered a 7-1/2 and had to return them for a size 6 which fit perfectly. I used the first pair for about 4 years and put probably 4000 miles on them. They are beautiful boot... Read More

Purchased a pair of Banff's (on sale!) 4/2012 in preparation for a two-week backpack trip to the famous BSA high adventure camp this summer. Was referred by a friend that had a pair and raved about the fit, support, and workmanship. I can't disagree. I'm a 210 lb, 59 yr 6'er with normal (for an old jock) slight knee issues. The boots fit like a glove from the git-go. Did under 100 miles of practice hikes and overnighters in preparation for the July 2013 Philmont trek. Our mileage was about 95 miles (75 with packs) over a 10 day period. All went well until day 8 when I noticed the stitching that secured the right side mid lace hook of the right boot had let go. Only slightly affected the fit around the ankle on that side and held together through the remaining 20 miles of packing and peak scramble (Tooth of Time, for those Phimonites out there). That;s the only reason I don't give these boots a 5-of-5. 12 month warranty is out, so Lowa is not on the hook repair - but I asked. We'll see. It does occur to me that the boot should have lasted more than a season and a half. 70-80% tread left. But I'd still recommend seriously considering LOWA in any boot purchase. I'd guess since they obsoleted this model that they realized there was a slight design issue and have fixed the problem on subsequent models.

I purchased these boots 4 years ago after a very long search for a high quality leather boot for women, and by now I have had that pair resoled. The leather is still in great condition despite lots of hiking in rough and wet terrain, and my not conditioning them as often as I should. :). Therefore I decided to order another pair from Sierra Trading Post, even though my 4-year-old boots will probably last another 5 years or more. I spent so much time trying on boots four years ago, that I thought I'd get a pair new pair to use in the future. I love these boots and wear them year round when hiking, backpacking, doing yard work, and more.

    • Answer The European sizing is correct. Mine are marked: UK 4-1/2, US L 6, EU 37-1/2, MM 241. I wear a US 7 or 7-1/2 womens so the US size is wrong. I ordered a US 7-1/2 first and they were way too big, so I exchanged them for the US 6, which fits perfectly. Size down at least one size.

    • Answer No. Nubuck Leather on the outside and kid glove leather on the inside. You can treat the nubuck leather with waterproofing spray, wax, sealant, if desired. Might affect the breathability, though.
