Closeouts. With waterproof breathable Gore-Tex® and a warm, moisture-wicking PrimaLoft® insulation, Lowa’s Mountain Expert mountaineering boots tackle everything from the rough, wet bogs to the high, rocky peaks.
Comfortable, Solid Crampon support, Warm, Well Made
Cons:
A bit tight on the toes
Best Uses:
Ice and snow climbing
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I bought these in March 06. I have used this boot for hiking up Shasta in the snow, and several Ice climbing trips. They are great for kicking steps and for holding crampons. They may not be the stiffest for ice climbing but with the Rambos(ridgid platform crampons) they work great. I have a wide square toe and normal heel and these have been fairly comfortable for me in 1/2 size larger than normal. I wear a thin liner and light weight wool hiker socks. I have not replaced the foot bed as it is a good quality and there is no extra room. I have not logged a lot of hiking in these and have not used on any trips more than a few days. I may need more toe room for extended hiking. Comfortable to the low 20's. I do recommend these for the uses described.

Excellent quality boot! Can't beat the price! Extended durability and comfort. These boots will outlast anything else on the market. My husband's old pair had 20 years and over 10,000 walking miles!

Great Boots for Hiking / Trekking made by Lowa , a German Boot maker that has been making great Hiking Boots for Decades as well as Mountaineering / Alpine Boots crafted in Italy near the Dolomites , home of the Alpine Boot makers since the late '20's.
Today many of the lesser brands and the not so technical Alpine Boots are being made in other countries, but the best are still hand crafted in Italy so when you get a chance to buy a Boot made in Italy at a discount you should buy at least 2 pairs since before long all but the most elite Boots will be made in countries that are not so famous for their hand crafted leather works of art.
In all honesty, I bought the 2 pairs I own from the Lowa Co. and paid 20 % off retail and thought I got a great deal. Here you can do better so don't let this great deal pass you by.

After purchasing a pair of Lowa Cevedales from STP and find those to be one of the best fitting, most comfortable boots I have ever owned I decided on the Mountain Experts due to the time I spend in ice and snow. These exhibit the same fit and comfort however, prior to the second use and while lacing up the ankle the third lace hook just broke in half.[...]
