I am looking for a serious shell- as my "tent"for outdoor trekking in tough weather. When I'm in the cold but working hard, ventilation is key! The arm slits are woefully inadequate-- too small, and located at back of arm=not where I need them and hard to get at with cold fingers. So I am returning this jacket. For around town, would be great. For expeditions, not so good.

Ordered as a replacement for waterproof shell. Very pleased with quality. Looking forward to first use in downpour - have high expectations for its protective qualities.

I bought this to replace a couple Columbia shells I had which were useless (didn't breathe, flimsy). After having bought the Lowe Alpine Ontario jacket and worn it to the Grand Canyon in late November, I knew their brand meant quality. I love this shell! The cut is very flattering with a little extra material to cover your rear end. It's ample enough in size that I can even squeeze a down jacket underneathe for extra warmth. Yet it's not ridiculously large and tent-like. The material is solid but not harsh against the skin. The one thing that I've noticed is that the sleeves are about an inch or so longer than I'd expect. However, there are velcro strips to allow you to taper the wrist area so it doesn't slide over your hand. I will be wearing this a lot on rainy days and at outdoors events. Highly recommended!

I've never owned something so lightweight that is also so warm. I've been wearing it casually (i.e. not in the mountains) for that reason, but find two downsides to casual wear: the velcro at the neck catches on absolutely everything, tears up sweaters, and rolling the hood when it's not in use is bulky and doesn't sit well. I haven't worn it yet for skiing, hiking, etc., except for a run when it breathed well, though that is at the heart of why my husband encouraged me to buy it. We both liked that it's made in Europe.
